Everyone knows how many people were involved in the 911 rescue operation after the towers collapsed. Well, you would expect that there were a lot of toxic fumes and substances in the air, including asbestos, which has caused mesothelioma to several people. Some of these people filed a lawsuit in 2003 and recently, they settled for more than 600 million dollars.
Even so, the asbestos mesothelioma settlement comes with a catch. For it to take effect and for the people to receive their money at least 95 percent of the plaintiffs must accept the conditions. There is also a money difference. If all plaintiffs accept the conditions they get the above mentioned 650 million dollars. However, if only 95 percent of them accept, they will only get around 550 million.
The problem is, as I see it, that the asbestos affected plaintiffs are in the tens of thousands in this lawsuit and most of them will only get a couple of thousand dollars, so the general public believes that they will not settle for that amount and try to get more out of it. It is expected that the lawsuit will be over in at least 6 months, if not more, depending on a lot of factors.
